RE: one more question RE: Meds
Just what lilly said. Do NOT go in there asking for certain narcotics. Just tell the doctor what you have been put on and how they are not working. You should be getting on a med like cymbalta or neurontin soon when you see your neurologist. I take Soma for my restless leg syndrome ( one at night ) and boy does that put me to sleep. I have been taking them for many years now, along with ativan.
Do not try to depend on narcotics as like others have said and i can say i also get dependant on them. I do not abuse them and use them exactly as the doctor prescribes them. You have to make sure your meds last you the whole time till you see your doctor again. If you use them up in a few days before they are due and you go asking for more they will flag you and stop giving you any. TRUST ME!!!!! I have never been flagged but have had alot of friends that have. I am currently on about 8 meds a day between my CTS recurrance /neuropathy and my restless leg syndrome. It is not fun to have to rely on these drugs to get through the day. Many people when they run out of meds can go through terrible withdrawl symptoms that i hear are no fun at all. I know someday i will be going through that also. I am trying to only use these meds when i am in COMPLETE pain and that is it. Not for recreational as alot do. I get my urine tested monthly at the pain clinic as i signed a opiate contract. So i am subject at anytime to be tested if the doctor feels fit. My suggestion is to just take what the doctor gives you, try it a few days, and then next appt. they will ask how the med works. Class 2 drugs you have to hand deliver them to the pharmacy and you get no refills. Vicodin you have to hand deliver also but can get refills on the script. You should also have a brace on that hand if they suggest cts. Sleep with it at night. I had to have one custom made as the ones you can buy at the pharmacy do not work for me. You are entitled to be reimbursed for it if you pay for it, or wait till the OT therapist makes or gives you one. Your neurologist may even give you one also. Have you ever had CTS? IF not and your emg test come out positive they may do the surgery, but will try alot of things before they do that. That will be the last resort. Good luck. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |
