Sleep for two weeks!!!!!!
please excuse spelling.

Woke up in the hospital on friday the 14. Clean shaven with 4 I V's sticking out of Variuos locations. Felt like i got hit by a MACK TRUCK I looked up to see this man standing over me. I said who the F&%* are you he smiled and bent down and he said who the F&*^ are you. I been guy watching over you for the past two weeks. Just when i thought i had been abducted by aliens my wife liens in and says nice to see you awake baby.

She than begins to explain the past two weeks events. My son is a firefighter EMT for the county here (thank god) he came home from work on the 1 frst and he noticed i did not look right.I was sitting at the dinning room table having a smoke falling in and out of concious i finally went out. He calls 911 he gets the I V started before the ambulance gets to the house.

Make a long story short my body started shuting down i was Renal Kidney Faluire and Mio Carido Infraction. I take alot of Opana Vicodine ES for chornic pain and Lyrica Cymbalta for nerve pain.Well i ran out of Vicodine ES for break thru pain 2 days before the pharmacy could fill my script because they did not have it and said it would take 2 days to get it. So i had some old Avenza 60 mg(Morphine) and i started taking it WRONG THING TO DO.I came as close to deaths doors as i wanted to.Like alot of us I/W i am forced to keep some old meds in the drawer so when worker comp decides to stop filling my scripts i have something for the pain.

Now my question is this one Doc at the ER said i was dehydrated and thats why my Kidneys shut down Wcomp says they will not pay the hospital stay.

Another ER Doc says that my body shut down because of all the meds i have to take for pain. And the fact that when he inserted the cather they drained over 50 pounds of fluid out of me i weighed 302 pounds when i went in now i am at 250 which is where i was at time of accident. Then shouldnt wcomp pay?

Yes i know what i done was stupid and yes i know i am an idiot for doing but the fact is i was just so pain after a few days i did not think that taking 120 mg of morphine would hurt but it did so lestion lerned all meds are now under lock and key wife has key.SO PLEASE DONT FLAME ME.

Lawyer says wait and see.

I dont know the answer to our question. I am with lawyer onwait and see. But, I have a question, after reading your diagnosis. Have they talked to you about a morphine pump? Seems it might help, and will let your kidneys rest some. Just a though, K

The good news is,"You can get used to anything."
The bad news is,"You can get used to anything."

As i think i might have stated my Main med for pain is Opana 30 mg 2 times a day.I take Vicidine ES for breakthru pain. Ran out Vicidine ES had some old Avenza 60 mg (morphine) however now that i am thinking more cleary it was not for breakthru.so i was actually taking like tripple the morphine. Man i feel so stupid.

RE: Sleep for two weeks!!!!!!
vaworkcomp....I am very happy that you are to write to all of us. Please do not think that we are here to judge you...you are here asking us for our advice and support. I am not knowledgeable with the WC system...but I can offer support. What a blessing you son was there at time he was...you have a wonderful family that is very helpful with all that you are going through.....and you didn't do something that you thought was going to hurt ourself...Reading you story...and posting your story here may of just saved alot of lives here...I don't know that you relizied that...So thank you for telling your whole story...it had to be hard to tell. Also if you look at the whole picture...if WC did what they should you never would of done what you did...not to say it was right....but they make it so hard for some of us to get our medications...and when we deal with so much pain...I could understand how you look at other medications that you had on hand...to try to control the pain....One can only deal with so much pain. If the IC did what they should this wouldn't happen....it is sad...that they play with our lives as they do...and get away with it....it is criminal. I know I am just going on and on... I want you to know I am just happy you are here to tell your story. Please remember we are here to help and support each other...you have to not fear...someone flaming or judging you. By the way...I don't know that I have ever WELCOMED you to the forum so WELCOME.

Forgot..I did want to mention...I use pain patches to control my pain. The patches do keep an on going 24 hour coverage of medication in my system...also if I remember right you don't have the medication affecting your kidneys...(I could be wrong) My doctors are also waiting on approval for a trial for a pain pump. But none of this would even be an issue for you if the IC would of just keep you supplied with the medications you needed. Please take care. Always remember you have people here that do understand..so come here often for support.

RE: Sleep for two weeks!!!!!!
vaworkcomp,
Glad you are still with us to tell your story! Thank your lucky stars that your son found you when he did, and started the prompt care. He must certainly be your guardian angel! I can fully relate to what you were forced to do for pain. I myself just went through 2 months "without" my pain medication refills, as my adjuster suddenly decided she didn't feel I needed them apparently. So I too was forced to take what ever I had on hand...all my sample packet stashes, old pain meds etc. It barely took the edge off. Spring is correct it IS criminal, and WC/IC should be held accountable...but sadly they are not. We as IW's just pay the price for their lack of concern, or enable them to hit their monthly money saving quotas, so they can get their 20% bonus checks! In the meantime we suffer...they prosper. I'm very glad you came here to vent...as we all understand and can relate to your dilema and would never judge you. You have found the right placeBig Grin
Take care, LillyBig Grin

RE: Sleep for two weeks!!!!!!
vaworkcomp, I am just so glad you are here to tell your story. Don't worry, no one here will think you are stupid. We all know what pain is and what it is like to deal with it. Most of us also know what it's like to run out of meds.

I agree that wc should be held accountable, but your lawyer is probably right and you will have to wait and see. I'm just thankful you will be around for the wait and see.

Keep us up to date on how you are doing and what happens with your case.
Best of luck!

RE: Sleep for two weeks!!!!!!
It must have been horrible to wake up after 2 weeks and not remember what happened...God placed your son there for that reason...It upsets me that once again wc has placed undue stress and anxiety on someone who is just looking for a little pain relief...It makes me wonder how much longer will wc get away with what they're doing to all of us? Has any one heard from anyone of these celebrities? VAWORKCOMP I will pray for you and hope you find the relief you desire soon...

no where to hide

RE: Sleep for two weeks!!!!!!
Va, like everyone has posted we all do stupid things that we regret that may have caused us alot of damage or our life. I myself was in a situation almost a year ago with massive headaches after a procedure that was done to my neck that caused spasms. I was in so much pain and no medicine no matter how much i pleaded with doctors, ER's who would not give me anything to relieve my headache for some reason. I found some Nyquil tablets in my cabinet that were out of a box that had no directions on it , so did not know if daytime or night time but was so desperate to get relief i took 2 on the way to work in the am.

I was driving down the road ( 1 hour to work ) in the dark in my sports car and started feeling my eyes closing. I did everything to keep them open . The highway was under construction and all the other cars from the other direction were comming towards us headon with only a few of them orange barriers between us. Well, i hit one as i dozed off ( thank god noone was comming) and it bounced me back into my lane and woke me up. That scared me TERRIBLY!!!! I could of had a head on accident due to my stupidness and pain that i wanted such relief for. When i got to work, i had alittle damage to my side light, and i cried the first hour at work of how i could of injured someone else. I was not so much worried about myself as i was for the other person that could of been comming down the road toward me. I went right to the doctor that day and begged him for something as i almost lost my life or someone elses. He gave me demerol, which did not work but was something.

Just to let you know, we all do stupid things in our life. It is a part of learning. Some do it the hard way, and some get a second chance at life to straighten out from their mistakes. I was one of the lucky ones. Best of luck, and your son is a godsend.

carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD.
