EMG/Nerve Conduction test
Its me again from Tx.I just had an EMG test done yesterday due to the doctor thought I may have nerve damage from a herniated disc. When the test was over the technician stated it doesnt look like you have an abnormal test so you probably just had a back sprain.Does this mean that even though the mri showed a herniated disc that its now just a sprain?I asked my doctor after the test and he stated he would have to wait for the report before discussing anything further.Has anyone had a normal emg and still had disc problems?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

RE: EMG/Nerve Conduction test
After 4 surgeies, my paper work still states "sprain/strain".

The emg/ncv is to determine if there is nerve damage. Which now that I think about it. brings up an interesting question. Anyway, they wanted to know if anything is pressing on the nerves and/or spinal cord.

To answer your question directly. Alot of people have disc problems (as you said) without having issues with nerves or the spinal cord.

My case was the opposite. They did the emg/ncv on my right leg and it was flopping around like a fish out of water. When they did the same to my left leg, nothing happened.

8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom.

RE: EMG/Nerve Conduction test
Thank you for your reply! You must have had really serious[/php] nerve damage with that leg not responding at all.So when it shows on the MRI report that the disk material may be affecting the exiting L4 nerve root and the transversing left L5 root that the normal EMG shows that those 2 nerve roots were not affected?I am sorry for all the questions ,I am just trying to figure all this out.I really do appreciate the help!

No please forgive me for my ignorance.I know I didnt make any sense.I was asking since the EMG was normal does that mean the MRI report was wrong about my disc herniation affecting the exiting of the L4 and L5 nerve roots?

RE: EMG/Nerve Conduction test
I must agree with the person who said it is just for nerve damage. The company will always ( okay 99 percent) try to say that you had strain... any way that they can. But this test is no proof of such a thing even if they say so. Just do not sign anything without your people reading it. And if you don't have "youre" people you better get your people. This whole rehab thing is broken down into company doctors and people doctors. CARE now and Concentra-- don't waste time with them. You probably know this so I don't want to waste your time either.

Hey, I live in fort worth tx. Maybe we can talk some more. I had an injury at wallmart so I have some familiarity with the tx system. Because state laws do differ--and this is still George Bush Texas--and the disability laws are written accordingly.

I appreciate your reply to my post.I really dont know much about the system and how it works so you definitely werent wasting my time.I appreciate any advice given.I have felt lost through this whole process and grateful I have this board to turn to.I guess on the emg test I need to just wait and see what my doctor says before I start jumping to conclusions. My doctor is actually in Ft.Worth.I would like to talk more because I need all the help I can get.Thank you!

RE: EMG/Nerve Conduction test
It sounds like the disc is pressing on the nerves while you are not laying down. That would be why the emg shows normal. While you are active is when the disc presses against the nerve.

Kwhite48, If memory serves me. Walmart is self insured. That can add a very serious twist to a workercompensation claim.

brneye - I have the exact same problem, except for sometimes even lying down in bed hurts as well. Its weird how 1 minute you are fine and the BAM, instant pain......

My current dr ( the one giving the steriod injections ) said he was going to recommend me getting a nerve study done, so we will see how that goes as well.

Well I hope all is well..
