Today my dr changed my pain meds, I am now on morphine er. And to only take percocets for break through pain.... I have been dealing with my pain level running 7 to 8 durring the day and asked him for a different plan... He started me out on 15 mg to see how I react, then in a month he may up it deppending on the out come...

Has anyone been on morphine (pill form) and how did it work for you.....?

Had morphine shots after the knee replacement, sure took care of the pain.

I also have had the shots and IV drip, and I will tell ya it didnt take the pain away completly but it done a nice job.. I have been asking my injury dr for years to put me on somthing else and never happened.. I am glad I had my primary take over at least he is willing to try to help me controll my pain... Our goal is to get on a med that can control my pain without the dull feeling in my head and the amplified sounds.. I do try my hardest to control my iritablness but at times I want to lock my self up in a sound proof room...

I switch from the Fentanyl patch to Morphine ER because I wanted a change;20 mg 2x a day. After 2 weeks, I ask to go back to the Fentanyl patch because I could not poop with Morphine; I never felt the urge like my colon was so dang relaxed.

I tried Miralax and a stool softener with laxative. I went back to the Fentanyl Patch and pooping became regular in 2 days.

That may be an issue with me, he did write me a script for generic miralax because he did warn me... He has offered the fentanyl patch but I watched my sister way of life get flushed down the drain when she was on them... It took her forever to get off of them...

Now I believe fentanyl is a stronger med than morphine, correct..?

How did the morphine take care of your pain...?

Bronco I have had both of those drugs. The patch is a lot stronger of the two. With both of them I had to resort to Miralax. I am now only taking Percocet ER. I am still useing the Miralax. I guess my body needs it for all narcotics,

I also use a pan patch along with Loratab, and skelaxin. Not one who can take neurotin.

Doctor talked yesterday of adding an arthritis meds to the mix. I go in the hospital Tuesday for testing for the esphagus and hernia first, then a decision will be made on new meds.

For the cervical surgery it was 20 mg of Loratab and Topamax.

The drs here seem to put almost every one on celebrex for arthritis and joint pain.. Just becarefull, some will raise your bp.

Morphine did not work as well for me as the Fentanyl patch. The Morphine ER did not last 12 hours.

The Fentanyl Patch took me a week to get "use too". I have been using the Fentanyl Patch for 6 years without issue. I change my patch every 2 days.

There are several differnt strengths of Fentanyl Patch's. 12.5 all the way to 100. I was told years ago that anything above 50 was generally for chronic hurting cancer patients. Mine is 25 and I use Hydrocodone 10/500 for break through pain.

I stopped Lyrica,Celebrex and Ambien in the last 8 months. Lyrica has MANY side effects that for me were not worth the minimal relief it gave me and it is very expensive and considered a non formulary drug with Medicare meaning it is not covered by my WCMSA.

I have no issues pooping with the Fentanyl patch as long as I also eat a proper diet rich in Fiber. I eat 2 Fiber Bars a day that contain 9 gram of fiber each and eat salads and no fried food. Losing 90 lbs helped me also.

I also have been cutting back on my zolpidem (ambien), i have been cutting my 10mg in half and hopefully i can cut the 5's in half next week... My biggest problem is if I dont get 7 to 8 hrs of sleep I feel like a zombie for the rest of the morning.. I also take 600 mg of gabapentin just before bed for nerve pain hopefully it will be enough to keep me sleeping without the zolpidem..
