Existing injury now considered workers comp?

Hello! I have L5 herniated disc which has gotten worse I've time and flares up after hectic travel schedule. Am seeking several opinions as my doctor has recommended microdiscectomy and I'm quite overwhelmed. Visited another doctor last week and on paperwork it asked is this a work related injury -- I wrote possibly and doctor refused to see me. My regular doctor has me out of work for a week (I can't sit, stand or be in any position very long). I've alerted my boss but not sure my HR department knows. Suggestions on next steps? I am not rushing into surgery and not sure what steps to take to save my job. Thanks for any help!

have you filed a comp claim on it?
if so,options often depend on the work comp rules that control your medical benefits. many states limit second opinions or have special rules for changing doctors. without knowing your state, specific information can't be offered.
if not discuss, it with a doctor; claim won't be accepted without supporting medical evidence.

Kansas. Yes you can file a workers compensation claim if you have a previous injury and it was aggravated by the work injury.
