Workers Comp ugh

Sad Workers Comp ugh
So, I was hurt at work by a patient Dec 1st of last year. I've since been off work. My upper and lower spine ache and swell up. It's hard to sit long, stand long, sleep or bend very well without it hurting. A nurse working for workers comp has pushed me to see this doctor she knows and he all of the sudden has me supposed to be going back to work thursday and starting physical therapy also three times a week. I work 45 minutes away from home. I have been at my job three years. I love my job. But I had to put in for a shift change to 13 hr shifts as I couldn't afford to drive there five days a week. SO now they are expecting me to just go back to work with very limitied restrictions, and start physical therapy. i already had appointments for my children set up this week that i have had for a long time that I am not going to cancel. Also, I can't sit in the car and drive there every day physically or financially. And i'm supposed to squeeze therapy in there also? I don't get it. I'm not on anything for pain. I'm getting horrible headaches and other probs going on. What do I do? I always thought physical therapy came before going back to work? Help!

each state has their own rules and regs about comp; without knowing yours it hard to give appropriate advice and information.

You should get paid mileage for your trips to Physical Therapy. I did in my state of Louisiana at 51 cents a mile. I would check on this to help with the financial burden.

ahhhhhhh the Nurse Case Manager or NCM as we so fondly call her.....remember that snotty nose kid in the 2nd grade that tattled on everyone? She grew up to be a NCM you need a lawyer to fire her fanny and get a Dr of your own that puts your health first as you can tell she didnt put your health first...she took you to her Dr and she ran the show....you do not have to have her in your Drs visits she can make her own appt after yours.....if you go back to work and cant stand the pain have an ambulance called to take you to the ER...work places frown on that and lets face it if you are in to much pain to work you shouldnt be driving a 2 ton car down the road

The designated physician is the primary treating physician and is responsible for referring the employee to additional providers as necessary. The employee has the one-time right to change the designated physician. Additional changes require permission from the employer, its insurance carrier or the approval of an Administrative Law Judge.

ask your designated physician for a second opinion. if it is refused or delayed exercise your one time right to change doctors. pick one you trust.

Exactly!! The thing is, she left me in the waiting room and went ahead back. She told me that they had an office she could work in while we waited. She went back thirty minutes before i ever got called back. I fought with the agency i work thru earlier. They said they were offering me work so.....And the thing is, i work thru them at a hospital, that i only stayed at once they gave me 13 hr shift because i can't afford to go 45 minutes back and forth five days a week...They want me on light duty at thier office, five days a week. So, i'm supposed to drive back and forth with my back and neck like this twice a day, and also start physical therapy three times a week? I thought physical therapy came first? I'm so beyond pissed!

The first person they sent me to was a nurse practioner who is wonderful! She sent me and i got xrays and MRI done. She also sent me to a nuerologist. The nuerologist wanted me to go to a pain specialst before i return to any work. But the nurse assigned to me by workers comp insisted i see 'her' doctor in TN. The MRI report the nurse prac got back said i had two bulging discs in the upper n lower spine with small tearing. 'Her' doctor told me the MRI looked good and then said to go back to work on light duty this week and schedule therapy....seriously? ugh So i talke to the nurse prac today, and I am going to try to make her 'my' choice cuz i don't agree with that other doctor.
