injured at work, insurance co hasn't paid medical bill
hello everyone, i'm very new to this entire process, but here's my story, and i'm hoping that someone here may be able to help me.
i was injured at work back in december, was treated that same day, filled out paperwork and so forth, and was assured by the owner of the business that the company's insurance would take care of the medical bill. well, each month since then, i've received a bill from the hospital, and several times, i have contacted the owner, who told me the same thing, and that the insurance company was just taking a long time. well, this month, i was sent to a collections agency, and i have 30 days to pay the bill before it starts to collect interest. i really don't like to have this thing on my credit, and really REALLY don't want them to take me to court or something. ![]() now, between the time i was injured and now, the owners of the store switched insurance companies. the owner didn't say anything about this, but i'm wondering if the new insurance company won't cover the bill because they weren't the one we had at the time? if this is the case, am i now responsible for payment even though it's a work related injury, and every time i've took the initiative to try and make sure the bill gets paid, i've been assured it would? also, if it's not my responsibility to pay, and the new insurance company won't pay it, how should i proceed from here? i'm in the state of wisconsin, if that helps. i really appreciate any advice anyone can give. i'm absolutely at a loss here. thanks all! |

RE: injured at work, insurance co hasn't paid medical bill
did you tell the hospital it was a workmans comp bill?once I did that they called the owner of the place I worked and they were responsiable......
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: injured at work, insurance co hasn't paid medical bill
About 4 years ago I injuried my right knee at work and they sent me to the ER. I had Xrays and a MRI etc...from there not much else happened...that is a long story, but any way, I kept recieveing the bill. They did take me to a collection agency and finally I had to pay the bill. I did the same thing that you are doing calling the organization, I actually was working for hte organization in a key position when all this was happening. What happened in my case, I found out late, was that the organization had not paid the premium that month and they were being paid on a month by month basis. Since the premium had not been paid then the employees where not insured. Finally I wrote a letter to the board who governed the facility and the administrator was fired for not paying the premium and for not attending to my needs. THe board then paid me back dollor for dollor but they could not fix the damage that occured. I would find out who the insurance company is and find out myself why they are not paying the bill. Depending on what they tell you, I would then find out who the boss is of your boss and give them a call and a certified letter for tracking. Red
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. |

RE: injured at work, insurance co hasn't paid medical bill
medhavi
I'd call the hospital and give them the name and phone number of the IC, adjuster's name and claim number if you have it. I'd also call the IC and let them know the bill is being turned over to collections in 30 days if not paid. I believe some states WC boards will fine IC's if they don't pay bills promptly. Hope you get it all straightened out! dsny1mom |
