Peaches anyone?
A couple of weeks ago I ordered 2 bushels of peaches I must have been feeling good that day....today they came in...today is not a good day but peaches dont wait so I took 1/2 a bushel to the nurseing home where my Mother is..they were happy to get fresh fruit....another lady in the church took 1/2 bushel...and the rest is now sitting in 14-1 qt jars as peach pie filling or froze for drinks...the chickens are happy with the peelings and the 2 pigs are really happy with the scraps...2 pies are in the oven and we are all wore plum out...

RE: Peaches anyone?
14 jars, and two pies sounds like a lot of work.
I am wanting to go visit the orchards South of Wichita to get some peaches. Last week I purchased the items I believe I need for canning, and suggestions Jayne? |

RE: Peaches anyone?
I had a easy recipe..you will need clear jell, lemon juice, sugar, almond or vanilla, cinnamon and your jars....a qt does one pie...they sure were good....I also put up 4 cookie sheets of peach quarters in the freezer once they are frozen hard we put them in freezer bags but they we are able to take them out in pieces and make ice drinks with them...we also freeze bananas like this when they go on sale....you can take all your peaches and drop them in boiling water for about 15 to 20 seconds then into ice water and the peelings will slip right off....the chickens love the peelings...have Cody take the seeds and plant 10-12 of them in containers 2 to a container you will end up with peach trees.....peaches are true to seed...or if you have a place you want them to grow plant them there and remind him to water them next year.....find a menninite store near you you will enjoy the savings in their bulk stores and you have the man cave to store them in...check them out....when I come up we are gonna have to find it you know!

RE: Peaches anyone?
We have several menonite and amish communities north of here.
I believe they are close to where Body Builder lives, I will have to ask her about bulk stores. |
