Some advice would be great
Hello, I was injured on the job back in January of this year (I live in Wisconsin). A ladder slid out on me and I shattered my heel. It took 8 screws and a pin to repair my heel. I'll try to get to the point of my question.

Because of my injury, I had strick doctors orders to keep my foot elevated and iced at all times except to go to the bathroom. Well, I havn't been able to do ANYTHING myself! So my wife, who worked full time, has had to take care of me this whole time, and has lost her job as a result. All we have is my weekly workman's comp checks and cannot keep up with our bills. Out mortgage is past due, our utilities are going to be shut off on Monday, and I have no idea what we're going to do.

So my question is, does workman's comp compensate for her lost wages during this time? What if I was single and had nobody to help me on a day to day basis?

I thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

RE: Some advice would be great
generally you have to make such arrangements beforehand.
with a doctors prescription the carrier can either provide professional services or come to an arrangement whereby you can select such services yourself that might include a spouse or relative.
after the fact is much more difficult.
best to discuss it with them.

JB I meet so many injured workers on this forum who have gone thru what you are going thru.

Here is a web site that will assist you with locating resources to help your family.

RE: Some advice would be great
JB you are not alone. As Bummer said allot of folks go through the same thing. The hard part is WC does not always step up and do everything they can to help you. In some cases they do everything they can to make it hard on you and even do things that are wrong for which you have to get a lawyer. Not sure which is the case for you because until you talk with them and let them know whats going on you will not know. Maybe once you talk with them they will help you out but I don't think there is anything they can do to get her job back. They may not even back pay her for helping you out. We wish you luck and hope you don't have a fight on your hands. One of the biggest things I can warn you about is nothing in the WC system ever seems to work very fast
