Applicability of WC laws abroad
Hey

My question is; if an American-born employee working in a hotel in London gets injured during work, could he sue the hotel in the United states regarding the US WC laws ... or any other US law?

Thank you very much for any help, I appreciate it!

it depends on what you mean by "working".
those employees who travel and are only temporarily out of the country on business would be covered by a state's workers compensation laws. US work comp laws do NOT permit a civil suit for a work injury;only work comp benefits are available.
an employee of the london hotel working at that hotel would be covered by the work injury laws of Great Britain no matter their origin of birth.
whether those laws would allow a civil suit against the employer is unknown.

RE: Applicability of WC laws abroad
While in Germany a fellow worker was injured on his way to work in a car accident.....the WC law there was he wouldnt have been in that place at that time if he wasnt going to work....so all his medical and pay was covered till he was back at work....no settlement at all.....course this was 25 years ago

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

Cool RE: Applicability of WC laws abroad
sounds similar to pennsylvania and consistent the basic wage loss concept.
other countries can have better or worse coverage.

I suspect Britain will have a better benefit system then oklahoma as they have an advanced health care program that jayne would hate for being soooooo socialistic for her very sensitive rugged individualistic feelings..Tongue
