RE: nerve pain
Bummer, if by resting and getting off of your feet Helps with the Burning Sensation, you're probably just overdoing it lately and you need to slow down a bit. On the other hand if the Burning and Pain is constant, and no matter what you do you cannot get it to subside, you may want to have it checked as soon as you can. When a Nerve is impinged, the more movement without rest in between will cause inflamation, and if you don't give the inflamation time to calm down by resting, you may further injure your Nerve. Take it as easy as possible until you see your Dr. if the pain and burning eases with rest, and if it doesn't you may want to seek treatment sooner. And Yes, sometimes MRI's don't show everything, and sometimes they do, let me know as soon as you can how yours reads, sometimes you may need a CT Scan or Discogram to better find the problem. I Hope you feel Better, and Rest as much as you can!!Wink

RE: nerve pain
Thanks Limbo

WIth the burning pain I need to pay attention to when it happens, how long it stays, and what I am doing when it happens. I believe I will start documenting.

Previous I had burning pain of just a few seconds, recently the pain started last longer periods.

I have taken it easy this past week. The first of the week the pain increased and even with staying off my feet it hasn't let up much.

RE: nerve pain
Bummer, Please remember this as I went through this also at the beginning of my injury. Having a problem with your Spine, the main control system of your total Body is very Scary! Sometimes as with me, Phantom Pain can occur. That's why it may be good to document, to see if you can find precise times or activities that may be causing your inflamation, and try to get it under control. But it is Human Nature with a Spinal Injury to worry and add more Stress to your condition thus bringing about elevated, or Phantom Pain. Believe me, when they opened me up and manipulated my Spine, after Surgery I felt like a China Doll, and any rough movement would cause me to "Break"! It took a while for me to realize my actual pain vs. my elevated or Phantom Pain. It's totally normal to feel this way, the Spine is the main Nervous system of the entire Body, and an injury there is a Life Altering Experience! Please take it easy, and I Hope your Pain subsides soon!!Wink

RE: nerve pain
Bummer

Neuropathy - is a sister to RSD - you can have swelling, change in color of the limb that is affected, pain levels that are way off the scale, and I am sure monter, spring, sithie and others that have it can fill you in more on it. However with neuropathy, you don't necessary have all that goes on with RSD. Like I don't have the swelling or changing of color of the affected area.

However, just like RSD - it also spreads - in my case I have it body wide already - and this is since 2004 when I was first dx'd with it. This includes CTS, TOS (Tos was prior to the dx), cubital tunnel symptoms, Most of my problems are with my legs and back as far as the burning, spasms, tingling, numbness goes. And if your having it in your legs - then I will caution you about standing since you also feel lightheaded. Sit up first wait a couple of minutes before you stand - and make sure that you have something you can grab a hold of if you get dizzy. Have your significant other learn the signs of your dizzy spells - in my case my eyes would glass over and driller knew that and would tell me to sit down or grab a hold of the cabinets if I was in the kitchen. If I was outside when it started, I would sit down where I was standing until it passed.

You can also have the dreadful ringing in the ears - sorry to tell you this one - it's annoying. If you do - I suggest that you have either music or tv playing at night to drown out the noise if it starts while your sleeping. Trust me it works.

Also my neuro said that vitamin B12 and folate helps with regeneration of nerves. So that may be something to talk to your doctor about as well - a simple blood test can tell if your deficient or not - and if he won't run it your pcp can run it.

RE: nerve pain
The Spine Institute called today and my MRI is scheduled for Thursday
and next Wed, I see the doctor.

I have decided to wait until after the MRI before I go on medication for nerve pain.
