had follow up visit
I had a follow up visit to my ortho dr in kc tuesday. i asked him how come i have sharp eletrical shock like pains that come and go in my knee they come on all of asudden and he told me that he didnt know. does anyone else with knee problems get those kind of pains?

also i told him that my legs at night feel restless and it hard for me to fall asleep and he said maybe i have rls syndrome and thats all he said

i aslo told him that my knee cap is numb he said that is normal. will it go away>?

also i asked him how likely will i have problems in the future with my knee. he said i will alsways have problems with my knee. also i asked him that how come when i feel my knee when i move it i still feel grinding and he said that i will asways feel that. he said that my knee cap is not smooth at all and that only way to get it smoth is to give my a knee replacement and he said that he would not give me one cause i was way to young. so basicaly he to me to deal with it. also he told me that they wc just wanted to relive some of my pain not all. my hubby told me that after my mmi that if i have perment(SP) restrictions that i should try to apply for disablity. but i thought you have to be totally disabled to get it? iam only 32 but i got a letter the other day saying that if i brcome disabled at my age that i have worked long enough to draw it. sorry my post was so long . but i wanted to tell all of you what i found out at the dr

RE: had follow up visit
sis -
go to ssa.gov and read up on the adult disability determinations. Everyone is different.

It's based on a set criteria about physical/mental limitations but also about your past work and education backgrounds.

You do not have to wait if your not working to apply to begin with if you have doctors that will back you for disability. Most WC doctors won't do this - but you can talk to your PCP and see what they say.

There is a message running about ssdi I think that spring started on the other topic forum. You should check out some of the links that red has posted.

As far as the knee goes - I don't have knee problems - other than the fact that I have neuropathy and it goes all the way up my legs at this time. But I can tell you, I can literally take my knee cap and move it freely with my hand and have been able to do that for years. It pops when I walk from time to time - they say this is from running in track in school. Last time I had them checked out was in the 80's when a doctor told me the only way to fix my knee was to take out the knee cap and clean out underneath it and then put it back in - before the arthoscopic surgery - and then they would only give me a 50/50 chance of walking normally so I opted not to have the surgery and have lived with it since then. Today it hurts more if I do things for to long, but other than that, I do ok with it, that is as long as I don't stand in one place which has been a restriction since I was 22 yrs old.

RE: had follow up visit
Sis 249

The electrical feeling in your knee could be the nerve around the knee.
I am told I didn't have nerve damage in my knee....but I have been told a lot of things b the doctor that wasn't true.

The numbness may stay or lessen. I had knee surgery 3/06 and still
have numbness, it increases the more I am on my feet.

Being to young for a knee replacement is bull. At first I was also told that also. A knee replacement last 10 yrs on the norm, and you will know when you need one.

I was told 12/05 I needed a replacement, never got the surgery approved by IC.

Since I've had surgery on the other knee due to overuse. My back is now involved, I have leg/nerve pain, involvement of the scatic nerve.
I am scheduled for a MRI of my back and may have a herniated disc,
(this has been suggested by the doctor)

I am unable to walk very far due to the pain & weakness, I use a scooter for shopping trips.

RE: had follow up visit
Hi Sis

I had knee surgery in 2/03, since then I have had some problems with walking long distances and some pain and swelling at times. I was told that I would most likely need a replacment in about 5 years, well I am coming up on that 5 years mark and I may after all need to get the replacement. But as it stands now I am still able to somewhat move on my own. I do however try not to over do it

Since I already had back problems I am not sure if that is aggrevating my back and knees more all I know is the whole body is connected and when one part becomes weak it affects other parts of the body.

Sorry I can't be of more help about the ssdi, because I went back to work after my surgery but my job required very little walking so I have been able to get by.
