RE: New Forum Record Today
I understand your point, and much of what you indicate boils down to politics - on both sides of the aisle. However, you are assuming that what they had was "good government". I think a looming $3 billion deficit says otherwise.
I am struck by the protesters cries that democracy has ended. The capital was overrun last night by a group called "Students for Democracy". Their goal was to stop the democratically elected legislature from doing their job. ironic. More like "Students for Anarchy". Democracy did not fail here. Scott Walker is doing exactly what he said he would do when elected. If the people of Wisconsin do not like the direction, they will turn it around again. You and I can only sit as distant observers and wait to see what they, the citizens who elected that government, really want to do. |

RE: New Forum Record Today
When one is an elected official it is expected that one show up to argue, to come to perhaps to an agreement and then to vote. Not to run and hide because the vote may or may not go your way.
All parties must make concessions for the state to survive. To run out and hide is deplorable, childish and not worthy of ANY elected official. Don't cut here, don't cut this. Don't build this, don't have any power plants, don't drill, don't use coal, don't eat meat, . How about cut what is necessary for the better good. Build what is necessary, ensure our military and their families get the very best of care. Build power plants, build nuclear power plants, but continue to seek out the very best minds to have alternative energies in the future. Drill off our coasts for oil, drill over our lands to reduce our dependency on foreign oil from unstable countries. And get rid of any politicians that stand in our way, starting with the seated President |

RE: New Forum Record Today
I agree, admin.
democracy elected Wisconsin republicans and it can "unelect" them as well. (I suspect the recall efforts forced walkerites to move quickly and remove the union busting language from the appropriations/budget bill) hopefully, when the democrats retake control they will not try and stifle the opposition or choke off those that have opposing views. citizens shouldn't have to stage capitol sit-ins and take to the streets to get legislation fairly implemented. I hope democrats will negotiate, bargain, and compromise to get laws that work for all of wisconsin's citizens and not focus on disenfranchising those they don't agree with. that does not mean they should not expel and deal harshly with those who's principles are about suppressing and strangling the ability of citizens to oppose policy. as we've seen in may countries and past ages, that behavior leads quickly to totalitarianism and dictators. looks like republicans in many northern states are trying to bring back southern state-type segregation laws of the the 30's & 40's to certain classes of citizens (not based on color but economics and political philosophy) Hopefully there are generations of vigilant americans who will be ready again to march and confront them. for some reason a growing number of politicians have lost an understanding of the rights of the "loyal opposition". |

RE: New Forum Record Today
Very well put 1171, Its all about the higher power here, either you fit in the group or your out.. Economics and political philosophy is not the only things segregated here, the more north you go the worse it gets.
