Hello friends! I was at the doctor today for WCF with the company doctor. I told him of new and worsening pain in hip and legs. He said that he wanted to order an EMG and maybe another MRI. He did order the EMG. I was wondering what is an EMG and how effective is it?

The procedure is to determine if you have nerve damage. You are/were a HVAC mechanic. Have you ever been electrocuted???? If so, the feeling you will get from an emg with good nerves will feel the same. If there is nerve damage. It will fell like a lite tingle. The dr. will put some small patches with wires attached at specific pions on the body. When the voltage is applied, he/she will be looking at your reflexes

In my case, one leg was bouncing around like a fish out of water. The other leg did nothing.

Hey, whats up red neck..lol I guess it sounds like it won't be too bad but like my MRI if they say nothing is wrong what are the next steps after this AQA?

Hey AQA, you said I "WAS" an HVAC Mech. Do you think the doctors will let me go back to that type of work man?

Yeah I understand AQA. I can tell you that I have an annular tear and some other bulging disc. They don't seem to be getting any better. This probably don't tell you much though.

It tells me enough,

The human body always tries to heal itself. the bulgling disk is the minor of the two conditions. With PT and time, it may heal itself. The issue of the annulat tear is another issue.

Do you have any loss of feeling, or a tingling, or loss of sensation anywere????

With proper treatment, you may be able to return to your line of work, but you are going to have to be careful.

I recall back in 1999, I all the sudden started walking with a limp. I had no pain. That lasted for about two weeks and then I started walking normal. That happened again in 2003. Again, no pain. this time it lasted for about three to four weeks. I went to a dr. this time and he ran some tests ( the wrong ones ). Then in 2005, I woke up and could not walk with the leg that had the limp before. I had to go to the emegency room. What happened after that is listed in the bottom of this post. The reason I am telling you this story is because as a HVAC tech and state licensed HVAC contractor. I not only did the work you were doing when you got injured, but I did more. From residential to commercial to industrial. What do you think would have happened to me, if I had stopped doing all the physical work after the first time I walked with a limp?????

I hear ya AQA! I do have tingling in both legs down to my toe sometimes. Most of all, its like stabbing pain and spasms in the hip, front and back of thigh and calf. If the doctor does release me to go back to work and the company don't have light duty, which they don't, what happens then?

That has happened alot to me, my work place is a no restriction policy. I am still collecting ttd until at least they put me at mmi for my low back. From what I have been told, at mmi I have the chance to get re training, and depends what the final restrictions say.... I was recently given a 23% for hip and pelvis and % for misc somthing. I have not seen the report as of yet but am courious to know what the misc is and how much %... My boss has helpd my job even to this day, but have the feeling when all is said and done they wont take me back even if I was able......

I had a emg/nct last week, not the best way to start a Monday morning.

I have a cervical hernation with pressure on the spine and displaced nerve root at C5-6.

I wanted to see if carpal tunnel was the reason for the burning & tingling of the arm.
I learned I have mild carpal tunnel with nerve damage around the elbow, and the burning & tingling is likely due to the hernation not the carpal tunnel.

I was able to keep the cervical hernation seperate from work comp.
