Be very careful here. If I am understanding correctly, you have not told your employer about your work restrictions??? Whatever you do, DO NOT work beyond your given restrictions! That will cause more problems than discussing your injury and recovery by far. Remember your restrictions are also to be followed when at home, running errands etc...

I try not to discuss my details with anyone at work, seems everyone has something to gain by someone else's pain and troubles.

With all due respect 1171, HIPAA does apply to Workman Compensation cases. Your employer has the rigght to ask questions and get information regarding to your case as well as the adjuster and attorneys, but HIPAA does apply. Just because the employer has the right to know what's happening does not mean that the patient's medical records are not protected. They are.

HIPAA Laws state:

Covered entities are permitted to disclose protected health information for such purposes as authorized by, and to the extent necessary to comply with, workers' compensation law. See 45 CFR 164.512.

Individuals do not have a right under the Privacy Rule at 45 CFR 164.522(a) to request that a covered entity restrict a disclosure of protected health information about them for workers' compensation purposes when that disclosure is required by law or authorized by, and necessary to comply with, a workers' compensation or similar law. See 45 CFR 164.522(a) and 45 CFR 164.512(a) and (l).
