Worker's Compensation, PI, and Bills
-Illinois - 2 level Spinal Fusion
-Hired two lawyers (PI & WC) -Worker's Compensation Accepted the Claim -Third Party Claim also filed Surgeon's bill came to $66,000.00 Hospital bill for "Inpatient Surgical Services" shows two amounts. The first is the grand total of around $113,000.00ish, and then it says "adjustment - worker's compensation" and has a total of $80,000.00ish. Does anyone know... 1) I am sure these bills will be negotiated. Is there a set rate for the negotiations? 2) Why did the hospital take off around 25% off the top? Is this common or an Illinois law? The injury is the result of being hit by a car while walking. The driver was 100% at fault and has a policy limit of $250,000.00. I am under 30 and concerned about having money for future medical expenses. Does anyone know... 1) How WC figures my future medical settlement? Will it be enough? I am guessing not. 2) Is it possible to end this whole thing with $0 for pain and suffering from the PI case? I appreciate your help. |

RE: Worker's Compensation, PI, and Bills
why would you suspect they'd be negotiated?
it appears like there already was a contracted price applied. yes it's common to have contracts between providers and payers. it uses medical opinion and it's own experience with your type injury. yes. |

RE: Worker's Compensation, PI, and Bills
You're the longest acting member and are not aware that bills are negotiated? Strange. If anyone else has any ideas or comments, they would be appreciated.

1171 Wrote:why would you suspect they'd be negotiated?WC always pays the lowest possable price anywhere .....they have contracts with many Drs...not always the best Drs but Drs....Many Drs will not take WC they either do not want to agree to the price WC wants to pay or the hoops WC wants them to jump thru or both...it makes it hard on the IW because often times we do not like or trust the Dr we are "given"we can refuse the Dr and medical treatment. but then we have to go the rest of our life broken.....sometimes its a choice between the the fire or the frying pan ;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

I don't understand your issue here. 1171 answered all your questions, yet for the second time you singled them out for a snotty response. Medical bills are often negotiated, or in WC's case paid by a pre-determined scheduled amount. I am not an Illinois expert (while apparently you are), but it would appear from the bill you described that the adjustment reflecting workers' comp billing has already been made. Where I come from, the proper response to their answers would've been "thank you". |

It's nice to see that someone got their friend involved. This board is only as good as it's "experts," and I am free to respond as I wish. Also, I appreciate your passive aggressiveness in your response as an "administrator." It looks like this board has been overrun by fools and idiots. |

RE: Worker's Compensation, PI, and Bills
This board is full of people that care about others and those that act like you have don't stay long. If you know so much I'm not sure why you came here asking questions. You ask a question and get a good answer but yet don't like what you get? WC is full of answers to question the injuried worker doesn't like but that doesn't make them the wrong answer only not what you wanted to hear.
Bills in WC are not negotiated, they have contracts just like any carrier would have with a provider. Yes they negotiated the contract but that is not for each injured person only for the type of work done. Will WC figure enough for future medical bills? I bet not but nobody can say for sure Is it possible you will get nothing for pain and suffering from the PI case? Yes you may have to sue them for any payments and by the time your lawyer gets paid there maybe nothing left for you. And that is if the court gets done with the case while your still alive. Could you get money for pain and suffering? Yes you may but again nobody can say for sure because there is just too many thing involved. I wish you the best in your case but the people here only want to help and remember we have good and bad days as much as anybody. |

I personnaly think the poster does not like the facts of the real world. If anything does not coincide with what he/she thinks. Then they attack. I feel sorry for the individual.
8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |
