I'm in Illinois, settlement questions

I'm in Illinois, settlement questions
What is a MAW?

"I looked at the offer. It is 30% MAW which at a ppd rate of XXX.XX equals an offer of $XX,XXX."

This is from a settlement offer which amounts to about 60% of what my lawyer thought we could be awarded in court. I realize a settlement means taking less than what we think we'd win in court. But 60% seems low to me.

Unfortunately I have a rather adversarial relationship with the law firm representing me. And my faith in them is shaky at best.

RE: I'm in Illinois, settlement questions
i don't know what MAW stands for.
maybe some reference to Annual Wage...? Maximum, Modified, Mean, Median, M??

you can't evaluate whether an offer is low or high without knowing both sides of the risk . if the risk is high for a substantially smaller award then 60% may be a good mid point.

being realistic is often a very difficult goal for either side to achieve; a lot of subjective factors come into play.

MAW= Maximum Annual Wages

If you're not comfortable with the firm you're with, withdraw and have other counsel assist you throughout the reminder of your settlement.

RE: I'm in Illinois, settlement questions
I tried to look and see if you posted more about your injury but didn't see it. One thing I can say is would you be happy with the figure that works out to be? Without knowing what is wrong with you and where this leaves you in the end it's hard to say if they are even close with what they are saying. Also if you don't trust your lawyer that is not a good place to be because he is working for you, well he is suppose to be. Like they said a good thing to look at is the risk. If your risk is high that you will lose money in court then what they are offering maybe a good thing. Without knowing more it's hard to say too much
