New to work comp Need advice please
Hello I am from Kansas and I was injured one the job June 10th 2010. Two of my employees and myself was lifting a toaster oven off the counter to take to back room as it no longer worked and a new one was being delivered that week. Well the toaster oven fell on my left hand injuring my middle and index finger. After lifting the toaster oven off my hand I realized I was bleeding pretty bad. I called my empoyer and reported my injury and he told me to go to hospital. At the hospital they took xrays cleaned my wound told me that my index finger tip was broken along with the half inch cut I had and I had a fracture on the middle finger. They bandaged me up and sent me home. I was to have a follow up visit. I was waiting for work comp to call and send me to one of there drs. I told my employer how my finger was and he told me to go to my dr. When I went to my dr. they told me they could not see me for my finger unless I had $100. as it was work comp related and they needed the case number. Which i did not have. So i talked to my boss again telling him i still had no feeling in my finger so i was having some issues with picking things up. Finally I got a call from work comp in Sept. they did there interview asking me all the information and then said why did it take so long to get to them. I did not know. They set me up a dr. appointment. i took my xrays from the hospital and went to dr.The dr looked at my xrays and did one on my visit. said looked like the break was healing just fine. I told him i had no feeling in the tip of my index finger. He set me a follow up for Nov. 4 telling me to keep bending and massaging my finger. Well on the 4th I go inand he is taking measurements and asks if I have got my feeling back and I told him no. I am still having problems. He then told me there was nothing else he could do for me. That I would never have feeling in that finger again and that they would have to pay me for the lose of feeling in the finger. It would never be the same. I did not understand what he was saying. So I asked he told me that work comp would have to pay fro the damage done to my finger as i would not be able to use it like I did before. So now what is my next step.does work comp call me back or do I hav e to file another form or am I done. I would appreciate any help on what to do next.

Welcome to the forum.

I also am from Kansas, the Wichita area.

What area of the state are you from?

I also think talking to an work comp attorney might be wise.

I can give you some names if you are from my area of the state.

RE: New to work comp Need advice please
workers comp has some additional payments for permanent impairment.
the comp carrier will need those impairments detailed by your doctor in a report.
you can contact the carrier but likely nothing will happen very quickly.

I doubt an atty will be interested as the amount is likely to be very small.

You are not going to be looking at too much and the lawyer will get part of that so I'm not sure I would hire one. You should be able to talk to one for free but as 1171 said I doubt any are going to want your case.

1171 & Manley I agree the amount of settlement will likely be low.

Still it would not hurt to talk to an attorney and seek some advice.

Another avenue would be the Kansas ambudsman.

You can access them from the link 1171 provided.

RE: New to work comp Need advice please
I want to thank everyone for the help and info. I just want to make sure I have done all on my Part. The money is no big thing. I was not in it for the money I just wanted to get my finger taken care of. So I do not have to file anymore claims or call work comp case worker?
Thanks again to you all.
