what should i do?
on july 27th, 2010 was transfering a resident with another cna and we both got injured. my back was hurting. went to one of doctors on the panel and they did x-rays and said it was just a lumbar strain, took me out of work for 2 weeks. at follow up mid august i requested mri because i was still in pain. i also started pt during this time. mri showed small disc herination at l-5/s-1 with no nerve entrapment. doctor put me on light duty as of september 11th with no standing or lifting restrictions. he also wanted me to see chriopractor. after researching chriopractor care and talking to my pt i decided not to go that route. he did give me 1 cortizone injection and has tried to give me various medications such as flexeril, nyuncenta, and darvacet. i was still having daily pain but not on the same level as before.
went back to him last monday october 25th and he said there was nothing more he could do for me and released me back to full duty. he said if i had an ime they would find nothing wrong with me. i am in extreme pain now. i have been back to work full duty since wednesday 10/26 and i have blown threw 22 of the 30 darvacet he gave me and i am not getting any relief. i don't know if i should go back to that doctor or now that 90 days are up if i can go to my own. i live in pennslyvania. i wanted this to be over because i started back at my old job part time also and i have been interviewing for emt positions *got certified two weeks before i got hurt* but the pain is just unbearable all over again. thanks for any advice. |

RE: what should i do?
your prior doc made it clear he's over his head and can't offer you anything more.
believe him. request a second opinion from the carrier or select your own orthopedic surgeon. |

RE: what should i do?
pain management maybe needed but you'll need a referral and want to make sure there is nothing more going on and nothing was missed.
every physician has their strengths and weaknesses and no one doctor is right for every patient or situation. |

RE: what should i do?
You are beyond the 90 days, so you can treat wherever you want. Your family doctor sounds like a good place to start. He can refer you to other specialists. You don't need the adjusters consent to change doctors in PA.
