failed drug test
I receive work comp in AL. I was given a drug test in April. Today I went to my wc doctor and was told that wc no longer will be paying for my meds because a drug the wc doctor did not prescribe showed up on a drug test I was given in April. I have been on wc since 2007 and this is the only drug test they have given me. Why would they just now decide to do a drug test? The drug that showed up was hydrocodone (lortab) which I am not prescribed. What can I do? Can they report this to police? Please only serious responses only.

RE: failed drug test
there not gonna report it to the poilice...id be more worried about them paying for your meds and treatments as that can be very expensive..are you saying you took loratab when you wasnt supposed to??..or it was a mistake and shouldnt have been in your system at all...i was given a drug test by my pain management dr back in march and had loratab in my system and wasnt supposed to he basically told me not to do it again and that was it wc didnt stop any payments or anything..seems kinda harsh..try to just apologise and tell em you made a mistake and wont let it happen again

RE: failed drug test
I take it you in pain management. And they will do drug testing to see if medications are being abused or others being taken. You can request a re-test. Sometimes these test become mistakes, and your name gets on anothers report, or what their screening got names mixed up on them.

RE: failed drug test
I did take the lortab and the wc doctor basically said the state is no longer paying for my meds. I am on Fentanyl patches and Morphine IR (PRN). Should I try to fight it or let it go?All the DR basically said wc will no longer pay for my meds. I was going there every 3 months and picking up script. He does not ever lay his hands on me. He just says " see you in 3 months ". Can WC randomly drug test? I am thinking about getting an attorney and fighting this. Please advise

RE: failed drug test
Yes they durg test. It's really done to help protect you, and make sure your not getting too much of one medication. If you ventured out, and took something you were not to take, then you have explaining to do. But, all in all, your stuck now. The withdrawals might be bad, who knows, best seek a doctor before you do have withdrawals. But, you can pay for them yourself, as your been getting them for a good reason I hope.

RE: failed drug test
I tested positive for hydrocodone which I took but also for oxycodone which I did not take. Could there be a false positive from the hydrocodone? I need my meds. 2 ruptured disk surgery spinal fusion L4-L5 L5-S1 chronic pain 24-7. Does anyone have advice (legal or otherwise. I did not admit or deny it to the wc doctor. I think honesty is the best course of action but not sure which way to approach this. Advice?

RE: failed drug test
Hydrocodone / oxycodone same family of meds just as the ones below are also. Why you take it, if not prescribed it? Plus, why in the world would anyone try and mix in more drugs, when on heavy medication like your on, makes no sense. Your given Morphine IR (immediate-release) at that too.
Vicodin, Hydrococet, Symtan, Anexsia, Damason-P, Dicodid, Hycodan (or generically Hydromet), Hycomine, Hycet, Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, Novahistex, Hydrovo, Duodin, Kolikodol, Orthoxycol, Panacet, Zydone, Mercodinone, Synkonin, Norgan, Xodol and Hydrokon Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. RE: failed drug test
BBBB is misleading here. While they are both semi-synthetic opioids they are not similar in how they are metabolized or structurally.
Anyway,Hydrocodone metbolizes to hydromorphone but not oxycodone. So, somehow oxycodone ( Percocet, Roxicodone, Oxycontin etc ) got into your system but not by taking Lortab/Vicodin. |

RE: failed drug test
I agree I did mistaken that Cycler. And your very correct, as if the test showed Oxycodone and then Hydrocodone, then both these medications showed in the persons system at time of testing. Only meaning they where both taken, but the question now is why where they? Did the person freely just take anything that was handed them and didn't care to what it was? As I have seen that too in my past with certain people, either seeking major relief, or a high, and just didn't care what they took. And lets not forget those that chew the pill instead of swallowing the pill. Chewers are seeking the buzz not the help.
