2nd surgery
So as many of you know I underwent a 360 fusion in March of 2010 well I talked to my surgens office today about the increased pain down my left leg and now they are talking of doing a 2nd surgery Nerve root something I believe they want to go in and cut or burn the nerve roots I am freaking out now and just wonder if anyone has had this done? They also are putting me on Lyrica any thoughts on that drug? So confussed, My lawyer suggests I go see a nero surgen before alowing the spine doc to cut into me again so thats another thought, never thought that falling from a ladder could cause so much harm *sigh* any input would be apperciated Thank you

RE: 2nd surgery
I am with your lawyer on this get a second and even a third opinion till you feel better as for the lyrica I couldnt take it but many on here do and swear by it...I know how you feel about your injury....its a shame one wrong move and our lives are changed forever
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: 2nd surgery
I Agree with the Second Opinion on the surgery, and I Use Lyrica 50mg. 3 Times Daily. I also take Neurontin 2400 mg. per Day which has Very Close in the Same Effects as Lyrica. It Used for Inflammation and Restless Leg in My Instance. I haven't had any Ill Effects. I can Have a Fusion for Stability right Now, but I won't as long as My Cane keeps Working!! I don't want My Spine Manipulated anymore, I Guess that's why I Think a Second Opinion would be Wise!! I was told even if I had the Fusion Surgery in My Instance with My Injury it will not Help the Pain. Best of Luck!

To some, this can be a boon, to others it can cause more medical problems. I know of 4 people that had sympathectomies done and ended up with RSD/CRPS. So I would agree with the others in getting several opinions on whether it is necessary and if so, what your chances of it being affective are without getting other medical problems. I would definitely make sure that one of them is a neuro. As for the Lyrica, I was placed on it when first diagnosed with RSD in January of '08. Within a month, I had gained over 30 lbs and saw no benefit from it what so ever. I was eventually changed over to cymbalta and klonodine. Both were extremely helpful with the pain and depression that I was experiencing. However, each individual reacts to medications differently, and it also takes each persons body a different length of time for the medication to become affective. So I would say give it a chance (at least 30 days) to see if and what it will do for you. RE: 2nd surgery
Great Advice UA!! Yes Cycler, Quite a Few Asked Me to Fly the Penguin Again, so I got Him out of His Cage and sent Him on His Way!!
![]() Grumpy, I am Disabled from a Lower Back filled with Scar Tissue in My Spine where They Removed a Half of My Disc, Wrapped around My S1 Nerve and Encapsulated a Crushed S1 Nerve Root that will Never Heal! Any Question Asked Me about the Spine will always get a Serious Answer, as the Pain I feel Daily I wouldn't want another Soul on this Earth to Feel. The Spine is the Highway for Our Nerves Through Our Bodies, and when Injured there is not One Thing Funny about it, so Ask Me Anytime and I'll be Glad to try and Help! I Wish Everyone in the World would Take just One Minute to Take a Deep Breath and Look at the Wonders around Them. RE: 2nd surgery
Grumpyone, my doctor's always told me, to weight out the quailty of life issues before ever agreeing to any surgery. Then if you think you wish the surgery to take place. Then it's a great time to learn about the area, the Nerves, and go ask the surgeon and Doctor a ton of questions. Once again, you go weight out the quailty life, and try and make the best judgement call for you.

RE: 2nd surgery
What BX4 has just Said to You Grumpy is Absolutely Great Info.My Pain was so Bad I actually had to Crawl on all 4's I couldn't even Stand. Finally I could get on a Walker and it took I Believe 2 Months of Pt just so I could Lay Flat and still for an MRI! So when They Said Surgery, I jumped at it to try and Relieve the Pain! So I didn't have a Choice, and if You can make a Choice that will Stop Surgery and find another Alternative, That would be Great!
