DOE findings on complaint against son's college
Hi All,

My son (autistic) filed a complaint with the Dept. of Education against a local college. The DOE findings went in favor of the college. Even the sexual harassment they found no basis. The main student who sexually harassed my son was removed in February of this year for an undisclosed reason.

RE: DOE findings on complaint against son's college
Bodybuilder I find this sad that a school can get away with allowing this behavior!

I have been on the phone with the compliance officer with Kansas Department of Education, and the Disability Rights Center of Kansas over my son's future education.

Next year at his elementary the Resource Room and the Tittle I Program will share a classroom. There will be eleven teachers & paraeducators working out of this classroom. Special education students spend a part of their day working one on one with a para in this classroom. Some students spend more time then others in this classroom.

Add to this the students receiving Tittle 1 services in this classroom.

The enviroment will greatly impact my son's learing, and I am taking action now to prevent the combining of classrooms.

My son has Autism, ADHD, developmental delays, and sensory dysfuntion leading to behavior problems.

He requres a calm, quiet enviroment for learning, something he will not have with the proposed classroom setting.

RE: DOE findings on complaint against son's college
That's a Very Sad situation. You Send Your Child for an Education and expect Them to be Safe and Cared for, and then have to Deal with Something like this. Is there any Chance You can Appeal the DOE Decision and get Them to Look over the Case again and Reconsider? I Sure Wish You could, what Happened is very Irresponsible and a School being allowed to let Something like this Happen, and the Person gets away with it. Best of Luck.

I Wish Everyone in the World would Take just One Minute to Take a Deep Breath and Look at the Wonders around Them. Too Much Time caught Up in the Moment can Cause Us to Miss soo Much that is Good, and given Us Daily! We are just too Busy to See!

That's so correct, and then when something terrible happens they all sit around and say to each other, we should of listen and moved on the complaint when it took place.... They just never do anything, unless something bad takes place, something real bad... It is just so sad....

RE: DOE findings on complaint against son's college
My 11 year old is built like a grown woman and has been since she was 9....the boys at school are constantly asking if they are real or a "helping bra" she ignores them...in the last couple of weeks they are coming up and acting like they are going to cup them and asking are they real getting within a inch from her....she asks them to back off...I have called the school but teachers cannot be everywhere I told her if they touch she is to ask are these real and a good swift kick to see if they hit their knees.....next year all 3 of mine will be homeschooled our schools are getting to crowded and teachers cannot control 30 to 45 kids in a classroom when parents wont let them make their little darlins behave......

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

Bad Boy what you posted is an article of occupational therapist and their use of a Sensory Profile done for the purpose of DX.

Children with Sensory Intergration Dysfunction benefit from OT services in the educational setting.

My son started early introvention OT services at a very young age.

He was DX with Sensory Intergration Dysfunction at the age of 2 yrs.

RE: DOE findings on complaint against son's college
Jayne I applaud you for homeschooling your kids, it's wonderful, I did it for 5+ years and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Your daughter shouldn't be treated that way in school. The teachers need to have a sit down with all of those young men and tell them in very simple english that if they touch her you will go to juvenile hall. You continue to ask her these questions and you will be expelled. The principle needs to be read the riot act ASAP, tell him/her this stops today or I will have the media here asking you why you're allowing an 11 yr old girl to be sexually harassed and not stopping it.

Just my two cents worth,
BB
