RE: Aqua Therapy
I was in aqua therapy for strengthening and also for pain relief.... Mine usually lasted 1 hour but did see some that was a half hour, depends on your pt. They had me in thier to do core strengthening and also just more less float around on a noodle or just go to the deep end and hang thier which felt great on the low back... believe it or not thier is a lot of exercises that can be done in a pool.

RE: Aqua Therapy
I've posted so much about aqua therapy I thought everyone was sick of hearing about it. For me, it has been the best therapy I have had. Able to move and exercise in water. It's so freeing, and it improves my frame of mind. Good all the way around.

I bought my own spa with WC money saved.

I start every day out in the spa in order to be able to open my hand and relieve pain. Also swim now almost every day.

Hope it works out for you.

Have you found that the spa is a big help. and how long and how often do you use it. Friends of ours have one and i get over there a couple times a month to use it and i think it helps me some. they also have an inground pool. last year they did not open it but previous years i used it and it helped me. This year they are going to open it as they have putting in a new pump and filter system.

RE: Aqua Therapy
CF floating in a pool helps alot...bought an above ground pool with my settlement so I could float and get some relief .....a hot tub is worth its weight in gold...we got ours off craigs list....its small but I am able to float my body in it with the legs hanging slightly over the edge

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: Aqua Therapy
I also have had so much relief from aquatic therapy...I agree with Bronco..there is soooooo much that can be done in a pool....It helped me to walk after a lumbar, knee and ankle injury...

God is never late.

In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years.

RE: Aqua Therapy
To answer your question, I am in the spa about an hour a day, but I have to turn down the temp to about 98 in order to exercise. Otherwise, it's just too hot (my family likes it at 102). Keep a bottle of water handy because you can dehydate quickly in hot water. I use a "noodle" to float freely in the spa so I can work my legs, and 2-lb water weights to work my upper body. Start slowly without weights and just do range of motion.

I bought my spa at a "convention center like" sale where they had several different models from local companies who had gone out of business. I still got the complete warranty (master spas) and they have helped me several times with filter questions. Actually got the spa for 1/3 of the value and it was brand new.

If I swim (modified strokes) in a pool, it has to be a warm water pool. My body can't handle much less than 90 degrees. That's why I wanted to join a gym. Tongue

Just be careful of your neck and take it slowly.

RE: Aqua Therapy
Im with you chrischris, 90 is about perfect. When I was in aqa therapy at the YMCA here where I live they keep the pool at 80. Which is not cold cold but my left legg cramps and just aches when in a colder pool since my injury. As far as the hot tubs, we have a cheaper pool, my parents have a pool like Jaynes and either one of us have a hot tub. But when ever I go out of town for dr visits or what ever, we rent a room and must have pool and hot tub.. A hot tub loosens me right up and feels so good on my hip and pelvis (thats where all the hardware is).
Depending on your injuries I have found by putting 10lb weights on my ankles and going to where I cant touch and hang on to the side of the pool almost makes me forget I was injured..

By the way I thought I would mention my wife wants cement blocks added to my ankles.....LOL.

RE: Aqua Therapy
Your wife is funny Bronco! LOL!

The larger lap pool where I go to swim is kept at 80 degrees. I played around in that pool one day when I first started, because I didn't know the therapy pool is closed when they are actually doing "physical therapy sessions". It was too cold for me!

It gets so hot in the summer where I live that by the end of June, all the outdoor pools are like bathtubs. Tongue Tongue
