backache Wrote:I have a TENS unit, but I can only wear it every 3 days. If I use it more often my back becomes accustomed to it and it doesn't help. I use it when I can't take the pain any longer and it does ease it a little. Meds don't help much and I hate the way they make me feel. The injections didn't work at all. PT and so far the Chiro really haven't done much. At times if I put moist heat on and then ice, for about 20 minutes each it takes the edge off. I have bulging discs at L4-L5 with desicated discs and nerve impingement. It is 2AM here and the pain is getting to me, nights are definately my worst time because there is no activity around me, days aren't that great either, but I try to keep my mind busy and it helps.

I too have a tens unit and have had surgery on my lower back. I find that as the weather changes to cold my back begins to hurt. My Dr put me on Neurontin and Ultram. They seem to really work. As long as I take them my pain is reduced from an 8-9 to 3-4. You may want to ask your Dr about these meds.

I was put on these meds when i first got hurt, didn't wok that well for me and I can't take anti-imflammatories(sp).Thank you for your suggestion though. As you can see why i'm a little frightened that i'm running out of options, besides surgery. The disc that is herinated is sitting on my S1 nerve.I'm 36 with 4 littles ones at home and scared surgery will make me loss a lot of ROM.Even though the pain sometimes is unbearable at least i hold out hope for the not so bad days.My husband said get used to it and prepare for surgery, but so confused and frightend once again I aprreciate everyone's thoughts and opinions

I had the same fear. I have 3 little ones at home and was unable to pick them up and hold them. After the surgery I was able to pick them up and play. Im not saying all surgeons are the same but, mine did an excellent job.

I don't understand. Are you saying you don't want the surgery that would decompress the nerve by removing the disc herniation and fixing the problem even after having exhausted all non-surgical options ?

Some adjusters aren't bad.
My adjuster was great till I got an attorney. Then she went mean on her own ( I am sure she wasn't told to call my house while blocking her number and saying to me we're watching you and some other bad words. Then when I called her a bad name she used her regular voice which then I knew it was her but to make sure I had the phone company put a tap on my line. Few weeks later found out it was her.

RE: when is enough is enough
my husbands adjuster was awesome 2 years later when I went down I got a complete witch....but I got a really good lawyer

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

Not sure if that question is for me but if so, no.I'm saying if anyone knows something that me and my Dr,have missed i appreciate suggestions. And there is no guarantees that it would fix my problem and i'm not that willing to get cut on if no one knows if this would work.Plus all the stories out there a lot of people don't get better with surgery. And i don't want to lose my range of motion at the age of 36.
