Home remedys for muscle cramps. - bronco54501 - 05-24-2009 10:58 PM

Just curious, I have been getting muscle cramps behind the thigh and in calfs. It wakes me up out of a dead sleep, and cant seem to find that happy medium untill it releases. The worse part is it's my injured leg and I had my worse episode after taking a nap after work.

I just couldnt get off the bed to stand on it, my wife was trying to help by pulling pushing but the agony lasted about 20 min before I was able to move it..............She was worried it was a clot and become un-attatched.......... it was not the normal cramping this 1 had tears to eyes and I can usually take pain but not this time..

I heard bannanas but what are your opinions, if they get anyworse or more often I'm going to have to see the Doc, but rather not..........Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a good indication to me that you need to see a Dr....Men ! Why can't you just go to the Dr before it really gets serious ?!!! LOL

Bananas have potassium which is good to help prevent muscle cramping. Can't hurt!

While you are waiting to see the doctor, soaking in a warm tub should help your muscles relax. Try a heating pad as well.

Medication that works for me is flexeril, a muscle relaxant. I say it works because it puts me to sleep.Tongue

Avacados are also loaded with Potassium. YUM!

Buy some Tonic water (in the same section as club soda) as it has quinine in it...sure to rid you of nightly muscle cramps. Drink at least 4-6 oz a day.

Good Luck

Bronco

Thank you for the thread.

I also am waking at night with muscle cramps in the back of the legs.
Yes they are very painful, the nerve pain worsen a few days before the muscle cramps started.

I am on flexeril, don't believe it is helping me.

Well, my doctor told me to take (Niacin) 500 MG"s moring, afternoon, and night. I found, also for me, taking it morning, and afternoon had worked just enough. My wife had the problem, and the Niacin stopped it also. It does work. Why, because for some strange reason, medications cause a lack of Niacin in our body. I would also say, if one has High Blood Pressure, to not suck down too many Banana's. A couple to one Banana a day is good though. Buy, fresh Veggies, clean them, and snack on them helps for many things also.
