What should I do? - SickandTired - 05-13-2009 01:52 AM Long story short. I was hurt on a drilling rig may 2007. I broke my leg, messed up my knee and got a skull fracture. I had a knee scope feb 2008 and need another knee surgery. Ive been trying to get one since feb 2009 but have been turned down 3 times since even though i have all the paper work. my case hearing is may 14 but i dont have a lawyer just bc i have ALL the paper work. my question is should i have got a lawyer even though i have all the paper work AND do they always turn you down a few times just to try and get you to give up on the case? thanks for the help RE: What should I do? - Manley2 - 05-13-2009 07:48 AM Most of the time it is free to speak with a lawyer the first time. This might help you make up your mind. I'm not sure I'd want to go to any hearing without a lawyer, but thats just me because you can bet the company you work for will have one there working for them. The one thing I can say for sure is keep fighting to improve your health, that is the most important thing you can do. Also posting what state you live in. Good luck RE: What should I do? - Bad Boy Bad Boy - 05-13-2009 08:11 AM What State...? RE: What should I do? - 1171 - 05-13-2009 09:59 AM without knowing why or what the issues are it's difficult to say. you make it seem like a simple issue that doesn't need much to get the judge to approve but I don't know enough to answer. i assume the "they" is the insurance carrier or is it the self-insured employer? could the "they" be another doctor that was used to evaluate treatment? what kind of paper work do you have? RE: What should I do? - SickandTired - 05-13-2009 11:21 AM I worked in TX for the 2nd largest drilling company in the US. I have all the paper work from my doctor clearly showing why i need surgery. I spoke to a lawyer a few weeks ago but he said since it was so close to the hearing he wouldn't really have time to prepare for it. i have the MRI on my knee but the IC said they cant look at that because they are not trained to read those things. I thought I could do this on my own even though its a lot of work but maybe i should get a lawyer RE: What should I do? - jayne - 05-13-2009 11:56 AM ya think???????????? would you take a waitress to work a rig? hell no you gotta have someone who knows the ups and downs ins and outs of the job....get a good lawyer even if you have to postpone your court date to get it RE: What should I do? - 1171 - 05-13-2009 12:24 PM if during the hearing it's looks like you are over your head. ask the judge for a postponement or reschedule so you have time to find an atty. that's one reason that's almost always granted. |
