anyone had problems from a nerve block? - risingeagle222 - 06-26-2007 10:27 PM

I had a nerve block done on my hand 2 weeks ago when i had 2 finger releases done on my left hand. Now i am experiencing like electrical shocks from my wrist into my thumb area which is not near where i had the releases done. Just wondered if this is a common thing from a nerve block???

morning rising.....I wish I had that answer. When I had my soulder surgery the end of April I had a nerve block in my neck. Never had one before so I don't knowwhat's normal or not. I have alot of swelling in my neck, not around the sight, right below it, and have had more neck problems on the side of the surgery than shoulder problems. Makes no sense to me. I will ahve some answers hopefully early next week when i see the shoulder surgeon and the spine specialist. I have a horrible throbbing pain in my lower forearm , thum, wrist and index finger that drives me crazy. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this doesn't make sense to me yet. First why a Nerve Block if your having the Release performed?

Opinion, maybe the Block is wearing off, and this is a side affect of it wearing off.

rising.....the area where I rec'd the nerve block took almost a month before it wasn't tender anymore and the tingling stopped in that area. I was also very bruised around it for a good 3-4 weeks. Help any?

as my nerve block was wearing off, i had tingling, burning sensations. For a few days after the nerve block I had major swelling, my arm was completely not usable for it was "asleep". The temp of my hand was like 104, bright red and swollen. As much as I tried to even move my fingers they wouldnt budge.

Oh cappy, it was awful as you know.... I was freaked out so I called the dr and he laughed at me, he knows im one of those worry wart patients. The block i had with the first one didnt do nearly as much as this one did in march. My issues didnt nearly last as long as yours, now that I know for me it wasnt a permenant thing, I would do it again.. One thing I wouldnt have a again was the temp pain pump, it was more like a temp pain in the (Jayne's lame attempt to bypass the Bad Word Filter) lol... Having a tube sticking out of your neck and a machine hanging at your side 24/7 isnt fun at all.... The pain meds along with the block, worked fine for me, so if theres ever a next time (praying that theres no next time), I would do the block, meds, but no pain pump.
